This post shows how to repair a HP Compaq with broken Motherboard. A Memory module was put in put incorrectly into the board, and since has not turned on. I am going to assume it is the main board that needs replacing

The HP is a socket AM2 Sempron 1.8Ghz Processor with 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Disk Drive and 400W Power Supply Unit.

When you switch the computer on the motherboard will start to beep. The beeps are one long followed by two quick beeps. The HP website tell me the code for that sequence of beeps is the motherboard.

Because the motherboard is fixed onto the case, and the faceplate is also part of the chassis, I have decided to put all the components in a spare custom case I have lying about.

To transfer all the components except the motherboard from the HP to the custom case, make sure all the components are handled from the edges and transferred with care. Whn not in use, place components on anti-static bags
